Santa Cruz, California Travel Advice 2006 10/3/2006 - Wether your idea of a good time is chilling at a coffee shop open mic, shopping for some nice vintage threads, digging thru records, catching a band, or catching some waves.... Santa Cruz is definatly a place worth checking out. 10/3/2006 - The Boardwalk is one of the best places we have experienced in California. Every year we take our daughter for her birthday and we make all our friends and family meet up there for the big bash. And we have a blast, it's not that easy to get to on July 1st but, it's fun, inexpensive and the people are really nice. 10/3/2006 - Santa Cruz used to be a pretty nice little town full of surfers and such. The overwhelming influence of the '60's radicals the college, and the nutsy new-agers have subverted the whole town (the people who haven't moved away). The mayor is an avowed, card-carrying Communist and the street are full of burned-out hippies and homeless. Go to Carmel---there is nothing here for normal people. The best view of Santa Cruz is in your rear-view mirror. Everyone that we knew who lived here has moved and all the normal college students have applied for transfers!!
