A long weekend (might be longer than that) will be perfect at Northern Italy – the Lakes District. Drive around the beautiful lakes, Lago Maggiore, Lago di Como and others. The best time is the second week of April, when the temperature is ideal, not very crowded and wonderful view of blossoming trees and flowers. Buy daily ticket for in and out to small boats going around the lakes and visit small towns and islands. Villas and botanical gardens are worth seeing. For example the botanical garden of Villa Taranto and Pallazo Borromeo in Isola Bella are among many others.
