Ideal for a cruise: a whole flotilla of steamships and motorboats invites you to extensive or short cruises on the lake. It's easy to alternate between the shores by means of speedboats called Mouettes. An authentic flea market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday on the Plateau of Plainpalais. A ride through the Geneva vineyards is a rewarding experience any time of the year, and winetastings are indicated. If time is scarce, but you want to enjoy the city's green lungs, take a stroll through the wonderfully laid out Parc de la Grange with its many rose gardens. Or walk along the lake to the botanical garden with its aviaries full of exotic birds. Stop also at Perie-du-Lac, a fine restaurant from the 1930s. Rolex watches from Geneva, as well as all the other high-end names like Chopard, Piaget, Gucci, Tag Heuer and Rado are to be found at Bucherer on Rue du Rhone. The chic boutiques are nestled in this area, close to the Lake Promenade. The department store Manor near the train station is known for its food section and various assortments of wine. At the foot of the Old Town, on Rue du Rhone 48, you will find the department store Globus with its large selection of designer goods. 2/10/2007 - Walks through the Old Town with its nooks and crannies, art galleries, boutiques, fountains and museums are also the time to ponder Geneva's 2000-year history. The most charming of its plazas is Place du Bourg-deFour, where people meet at the flower-adorned fountain or on bistro terraces. Not to be omitted is the Promenade du Lac with its English Garden and the best view of the fountain. On the right-hand shore of the lake there is ample opportunity for swimming in the Bain des Paquis with its swimming pool, beach, sauna and steam bath. The Art Deco Brasserie Lipp is the place to see and to be seen. It is open daily from midday to midnight.
