AOÇ (Ataturk Orman Çiftligi) can be a cheap alternative. Zoo in AOÇ is pretty good.Every sign and explanations for animals are both in Turkish and in English. If you go to AOÇ you should eat AOÇ ice cream and “kokoreç”. First have your “kokoreç” (you should have beer with it.) than eat AOÇ ice cream. The restaurants in AOÇ open till morning but I advise you to visit it at the day light.

Castle of Ankara is one of the most beautiful and historical places of Ankara. When you climb up to castle city is under your feet. You can also see old Ankara houses. But be careful with the locals they can be very edgy. Never argue with them. Visit the castle after detailed information and with a group.
There are 3 important streets where you can find many shops, cafes, bars, night clubs, etc. Bahçelievler 7.Street is one of them (all these streets are more expensive than Kizilay but the quality increases as well). It is not wise to go to these streets by car because of the lack of the parking space. If you want to go to a cafe Hobby can be a good option which is at the end of the street. If you want to drink something go to Pampero (Generally an orange Lamborghini is parked in front of it) Brothers’ can be an alternative who like to listen to live music.
Our second street is Tunali Hilmi. It is a bit more expensive than Bahçelievler 7. Luxury restaurants, cafes, stores you can find at Tunali Hilmi Street (Locals call it Tunali as short and 7 to Bahçelievler 7. street). Karum is a mall where various clothing stores exists. Also D&R’s new 6-floored store can be a good place to visit. You can find DVDs, magazines, books, electronical stuff and etc…
Arjantin Street is the last one. It is very luxurious and very expensive. Generally restaurants and night clubs are on Arjantin Street. You better check your financial status before going to Arjantin Street. I don’t want you to wash the dishes to pay the check (Just kidding).

Ankara can be visited in every season but the second half of May is the best. The good weather conditions and spring festivals at all university campus makes this period attractive. In these festivals you can listen to Turkey’s popular bands, singers as well as world known groups. But some universities don’t accept guests so you better make connections before you go. Fests are usually free but sometimes you need to buy ticket for some concerts which is at an affordable price.

You cannot leave Ankara without visiting Anitkabir. It is the mausoleum of Kemal Atatürk who is the founder of Republic of Turkey. Security is very tight in Anitkabir, so don’t be surprised if guards search your belongings. Also don’t forget to walk on lion road.

Kizilay is accepted as center of Ankara. You can find whatever you can imagine there. It is also center of public transportation so if you don’t have a car you can go wherever you want from Kizilay. Don’t be paranoid but be careful in Kizilay. You can meet with children trying to sell you tissue, rose, etc... Just ignore and walk away (If you don’t want to buy).

In Ankara, you have to go to the tower called "Atakule". This is the tallest tower in Ankara. You can see the all Ankara when you are at the top. There is a nice restaurant up in the tower, however, it is quite expensive. The top part of the tower rotates, in one hour it only makes one rotation. Going up is quite cheap and is definatly worth going up.
